Thriving Leaders

A workshop for leaders and managers who want to sustain long term influence

In order to sustain an organisation’s capacity to grow and change, it is fundamental that individual leaders grow and change, or in the language of the project, that they ‘thrive’. This workshop draws on the findings from my research exploring how individual leaders thrive in organisations.

This workshop interweaves findings from my research project with participants’ own experiences as leaders in organisations. Through a mix of presentation, workshop activities and discussion, the thriving leader inquiry continues from your own perspective.

The objectives for the workshop are for you to:

• Develop your own appreciation and understanding of the ‘thriving leader’
• Design your own practical strategies for thriving
• Reflect critically on the issues facing the ‘thriving leader’
• Stimulate you to explore ways in which the concept of the ‘thriving leader’ can be applied in your organisation

Background to the Thriving Leader

Through my research project I have expanded the meaning of ‘thriving’ from different theoretical and practical perspectives drawing on the experiences of practising leaders and managers, to produce a rich and dynamic concept. From my research, I have been developing the idea of a thriving life-cycle, which shows that not only do individuals experience thriving and non-thriving, but that there is also an intermediate state where the individual can re-evaluate, re-focus, and re-energise. From the thriving life-cycle we can devise a series of practical strategies for individual thriving.
